Procedure
Custom-Made For Baby Boomers
CK Surgery is the only vision procedure designed specifically
for Baby Boomers who want a safe, minimally invasive procedure
to free them of reading glasses. More than 30,000 CK procedures
have been performed since the FDA first approved it in 2002
for age-related farsightedness (hyperopia), a condition
that differs from presbyopia in its effect on the eye's
ability to focus, but has similar symptoms.
CK
Surgery Procedure
CK is relatively simple to perform. The physician uses a
small probe, thinner than a strand of human hair, which
releases RF energy. |
|
|
The
probe is applied in a circular pattern on the outer cornea
to shrink small areas of collagen. |
|
|
This
circular shrinkage pattern creates a constrictive band (like
the tightening of a belt), increasing the overall curvature
of the cornea. The procedure, which takes less than three
minutes, is done in-office with only topical anesthesia
(eye drops). |

Day
of CK Treatment
Before CK: One of our surgery staff will meet with
you to answer any last minute questions that you may have
come up with after your exam. Post-op instructions will
be covered as well as the details of the treatment itself.
As this point we will recheck the loose lens test and dominant
eye test.
During CK: The procedure only takes a few minutes
once you are in position. You will be placed on a comfortable
bed and asked to stare at a "Fixation Light" in the microscope.
Your eye will be marked with a series of spots. The surgeon
will use these spots as a guide and touch each spot with
the radio frequency probe. The loose lens test performed
during your exam and prior to treatment will determine the
exact number of spots needed to attain the desired results.

After
CK: Shortly after your treatment, we will cover your
post-op instructions one last time. It is normal for your
eyes to feel scratchy. This may last for a couple of days.
It is also normal to be sensitive to light and wind. Eye
drops will be used to keep the discomfort to a minimum for
the first few days after treatment. |
| Many
patients see improvement in their near vision immediately
after the procedure but the end results can take several
weeks to be fully realized. |
|
|
CK
follow up care: CK patients will be given post-op instructions
to follow for the first seven to ten days after treatment.
You will be asked to return to our office in a week to 10
days after the treatment. At that time, we will check your
vision and recommend the appropriate post-CK instructions
for you to follow. Your vision at the ten-day check is more
than likely not going to be the final result. Expect fluctuations
in your vision. Normal follow up visits will be determined
by how well each individual patient is responding to their
treatment. |
