Our eye surgeons are regarded as having some of the best
expertise in LASIK procedures in the Midwest. The eye center
serves the Midwest as well as the Greater Cincinnati area.
Before Your LASIK Surgery: Upon arrival, you will
be asked to check in for your LASIK surgery at
our
center in Northern Kentucky, and sign the
appropriate paperwork.
After checking in, one of our surgery staff members will
discuss your post-op instructions with you and explain the
procedure so you know what to expect. |
|
|
During
the Procedure:
Your eyes will be numbed with strong topical eye drops.
Then you will be asked to stare at a fixation light. A flexible
lid holder called a speculum will be placed in your eye
so you don't blink. The doctor will mark your eye to ensure
proper positioning of the treatment before, during and after
surgery. The treatment will be verified one last time before
proceeding. The surgeon will prepare the surface of the
eye with the use of a micro-keratome. The surgeon will then
use cool ultraviolet light pulses of the laser to etch your
prescription onto the surface of your eye. The surgeon will
then rinse the eye with cool sterile water and make sure
everything looks great. One last check at a microscope will
be performed to ensure perfection before sending you home.
After Your Lasik Surgery: Post-op instructions will
be reviewed one last time. |
| To
keep you from rubbing, clear shields will be placed
over your eyes. They can be removed four hours after
surgery and placed back on when you sleep for one
week. |
|
|
You
are advised to go home and take a nap or keep your eyes
closed for four hours. When you wake up take the shields
off and start your drops as instructed.
Be prepared for a slight burning sensation for about four
hours, this will go away and leave you with a sandy feeling
in your eye that is tolerable. Your vision will begin
to clear as time goes on. Each patient heals differently.
Generally, patients experience little to no pain during
the procedure and usually are uncomfortable for only three
to four hours post-operatively. Vision usually improves
within 24 hours and stabilizes in several months. Prescription
eye drops are used for one week. Overall, patients have
a very smooth post-operative course compared to other refractive
procedures. |
