Dr.
John Halpin attended medical school at the University of
Kentucky. After completing his medical training, he went
into family practice in Midway, Kentucky. After two years
as a primary care physician, he decided to go into ophthalmology.
After completing his ophthalmology residency at the Mayo
Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, he relocated to be an ophthalmologist
in the Cincinnati Ohio Tri-State area. He joined an existing
practice and eventually took over that practice. (Dr. John will be retiring from a long and successful career on December 31st, 2007 - for more information, please click here) |

The
Halpin - Poweleit Eye Center came to life in July
1976 in the heart of Clifton in Cincinnati. His practice
continued to grow and in July of 1979, his younger
brother Michael joined him in the practice of ophthalmology.
Dr. Michael Halpin attended medical school at the
University of Kentucky and completed his residency
in ophthalmology there also. |

The brothers opened a second office on Crisler Avenue in
Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky. The practice flourished and the
decision was made to develop their own outpatient ambulatory
surgery center where they would perform thousands of surgical
procedures for cataracts and glaucoma. The small Clifton
location in Cincinnati was vacated and moved to 7720 Montgomery
Road in Kenwood, Ohio, which housed the State-of-the-Art
ambulatory surgery center and the clinical offices. |

In
late 1989, Dr. Alvin Poweleit, who had been an ophthalmologist
in Covington, Kentucky with his father, decided to join
the Halpin brothers in practice hence the Halpin-Poweleit
Eye Center was created. Dr. Poweleit's office located at
802 Scott Blvd. in Covington, Kentucky became the third
office location of the practice.
The Kenwood location soon became too small for the ever-growing
practice so in May of 1991 the Ambulatory Surgery Center
and the Clinical offices moved to its present location,
which is located at 8044 Montgomery Road. |

In
August of 1991 Dr. Jean Noll, who had attended medical
school at the Eastern Virginia Medical School and
had completed her ophthalmology residency at the University
of Kentucky, joined the practice. The four doctors
continued to be a vital presence in the medical community
and when Dr. Poweleit made the decision to retire
at the end of 1999 the search was on for a replacement. |

In
October 2001, Dr. Chris Thon, who attended college at the
University of North Dakota and the Pacific University College
of Optometry, Oregon, joined the group. Ohio native Dr. Saif Jaweed attended medical
school at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo and completed
his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati.
After completing fellowship in refractive surgery, he joined
the practice in July 2003. Bringing his skills in comprehensive opthalmology to the group this year is Dr. Douglas Owen, following a successful 20-year practice in Richmond, Kentucky. Dr. Owen's special interests include cosmetic eye surgery and Botox.
The group of six sees patients
out of four locations in the Tri-State area. The MD's have
performed thousands of surgeries and continue to be at the
forefront of the latest technology and procedures that the
field of Ophthalmology has to offer, including no-stitch
cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, and refractive surgery. |
